SBI Credit Card users need to prepare for some important changes coming into effect from December 1, 2026. SBI Card has announced revised charges on certain fuel and transportation transactions that could increase the cost of using your credit card.
Here are the key changes every SBI Credit Card user should know.
1. 1% Extra Charge on Transportation Payments
From December 1, 2026, SBI Card will levy an additional 1% fee on eligible transportation transactions exceeding ₹30,000.
This applies to transactions falling under Merchant Category Codes (MCC) 4111, 4784 and 4131.
For example, if you make an eligible transportation payment of ₹50,000, you will have to pay an additional ₹500 as a fee.
2. 1% Fee on High Fuel Spending
Another major change affects fuel transactions.
If your total eligible fuel spending exceeds ₹50,000 during a billing cycle, SBI Card will charge an additional 1% fee on the entire fuel spending amount.
For example, if you spend ₹60,000 on fuel in one billing cycle, you will have to pay an additional ₹600.
Importantly, the charge applies to the entire amount, not just the amount exceeding ₹50,000.
3. Changes in Reward Point Redemption
SBI Card has also revised certain reward point redemption rules from April 1, 2026.
For eligible cards, statement credit redemption is capped at 60,000 reward points per month. Redemption is also subject to specific multiples and card-level conditions.
Some cards have exemptions from these restrictions.
4. Changes in Late Payment Charges
SBI Card has revised certain late payment charges from May 1, 2026.
For outstanding dues above ₹100 and up to ₹500, the late payment charge is ₹100.
For outstanding dues above ₹500 and up to ₹1,000, the charge is ₹500.
5. BPCL SBI Credit Card Annual Fee Waiver
Another change concerns the BPCL SBI Credit Card.
From May 1, 2026, the annual spending requirement for annual fee reversal has increased from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh.
This means cardholders will need to meet the higher spending threshold to qualify for the annual fee reversal.
What Should SBI Credit Card Users Do?
These changes are particularly important for people who regularly use SBI Credit Cards for fuel purchases and transportation payments.
Cardholders should monitor their monthly spending, understand the applicable charges and review their card's updated terms and conditions.
Remember: The new 1% charges from December 1 do not apply to every SBI Credit Card transaction. They apply to eligible fuel and transportation transactions that cross the specified limits.
Before making large payments, check the latest terms and conditions applicable to your SBI Credit Card.
