Current position — reviewed 22 August 2026
Pre-filled online filing of ITR-2 is now a standard feature of the e-filing portal, not a new release. The workflow described here continues to apply.
Salary, interest, dividend, TDS and reported capital-gains data flow in from AIS, TIS and Form 26AS, and can be edited before submission.
Pre-filled data is an aid, not a certification; you remain responsible for verifying every figure, particularly capital gains where cost of acquisition is often missing or wrong.
The utility and the set of pre-filled fields are refreshed for each assessment year, so use the version notified for the year you are filing.
ITR-2 remains the form for individuals and HUFs without business or professional income, including those with capital gains and multiple properties.

This update is a significant step toward simplifying the tax filing process for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) who fall under this specific ITR category.
Whether you're a salaried individual with multiple properties or an investor with capital gains, this feature can help you file faster, more accurately, and with less stress.
